Salon Services at Twentyseven: Everything You Need to Know

Most people sit down in the salon chair without actually knowing what they are booking or why. We know a thing or two about good hair, so we wrote a guide we wished existed to help you! In this blog post, we’re breaking down every service—what it does, who it's for and how often to come in. Whether it’s your first time visiting our studio or if you’ve been coming to see us for years, there is something in this guide for everyone.

Here at Twentyseven, we believe in listening to your hair’s needs, that includes your maintenance preferences, your hair type and your long-term #hairgoals. Our approach is intentional and highly personalized, which means no two clients leave looking the same or get the same treatment. When you leave our salons, you’ll understand exactly what was done to your hair and how to keep it looking its best until your next visit.

No gatekeeping here.

Colour Services

Root Re-Touch

What it is:

A single-step colour application focused on the root area only. This service covers only the new growth (the hair that has come in since your last colour appointment) bringing it back in line with your existing shade.

Who it’s for:

Anyone who covers 100% of their grey, those shifting their base colour one to two levels, or clients going darker. If your goal is consistent, seamless colour from root to tip and you want to maintain your current shade rather than dramatically change it, this is your appointment.

When to revisit the salon:

Every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on how quickly your hair grows and how much contrast you are comfortable with at the root.

Full Colour

What it is:

Colour applied from root to tip, covering the entire length of the hair in one application. Can be done with permanent colour (for full coverage and maximum longevity), demi-permanent colour (gentler, no ammonia, fades gradually), or a combination of both depending on the result you are going for.

Who it is for:

Those making a more significant colour change, going darker, switching shades entirely, or refreshing colour that has faded throughout the lengths. Also great for anyone who wants a uniform, all-over result from root to end.

When to revisit the salon:

Every 4 to 8 weeks depending on the formula used and how much maintenance you want. Your stylist will guide you on the right interval for your specific colour.

Full Head Highlights / Balayage

What it is:

A highly customizable lightening service dispersed throughout the entire head. At Twentyseven, this is done using a foil technique: precise, controlled sections of hair are painted with lightener and wrapped in foil to process. This allows for maximum brightness, lift, and customization. Every full highlight session includes a bond-building treatment to protect the integrity of the hair, plus a toner, gloss, or combination of glosses applied at the end to create the exact finished look you are after.

Twentyseven Tip: Think of the highlights as your foundation and the toner as the rest of your makeup, the highlights create the structure and the toner gives you the specific tone, depth, and finish.

Who it is for:

Virgin hair clients who want to go significantly lighter all over, or existing colour clients who are due for a full lightening session typically once or twice a year. In between full sessions, most clients maintain their look with express blonding or partial highlights.

When to revisit the salon:

Once or twice a year for most clients. The key to maintaining a full highlight is the services you do in between, partial highlights and express blonding keep everything fresh without the time and cost of a full session every visit.

Partial Highlights

What it is:

Roughly half the foils of a full highlight session, focused on the areas of the head where lightening has the most visual impact. Equally customizable and capable of delivering incredibly high-impact results, just in a more targeted, efficient way.

Who it is for:

Two kinds of clients: new clients with virgin hair who want to start slow and subtle before committing to a full head of highlights, and existing colour clients who want to maintain their look between full sessions. If you are not quite ready for the full commitment or just need a refresh rather than a reset, this is the one.

When to revisit the salon:

Every 8 to 12 weeks as a maintenance service between full highlight appointments.

Face Framing (Express Blonding)

What it is:

The smallest number of foils with the highest visual impact. Lightener is placed right where it matters most (around the face and sometimes along the part line) to instantly brighten your look and frame your features. This is an express service designed to deliver maximum results in minimal time.

Who it is for:

Existing colour clients who want a quick pick-me-up between sessions without a full appointment. If your hair is looking a little flat and your face needs more light around it, this is the fastest way to get there.

When to revisit the salon:

Every 6 to 10 weeks as a between-session refresh, paired with a gloss or toner for the most complete result.

Lowlights

What it is:

The opposite of highlights, lowlights add darker tones back into lightened hair to create depth, dimension, and a more natural, multi-dimensional result. They can be done on their own or combined with a lightening session to build a truly custom blonde.

Who it is for:

Anyone whose highlights have started to look too uniform, too bright, or lacking depth. Lowlights are what separate a flat, one-dimensional blonde from a rich, dimensional, lived-in colour that looks natural. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to avoid the over-highlighted look.

Bleach and Tone

What it is:

A root re-touch application for those who want to be blonde from root to tip, a full, seamless blonde with no visible root. Bleach is applied at the root area and a toner is used to finish the result to the desired shade.

Who it is for:

Those committed to a platinum or very light blonde. This service requires a consistent maintenance schedule, if upkeep lapses, banding (an uneven line of demarcation at the root) can occur. This is a high-commitment service for those who love a full, bright blonde and are willing to maintain it properly.

When to revisit the salon:

Every 4 to 6 weeks. Consistency is non-negotiable with bleach and tone because waiting too long creates banding and uneven results that are difficult to correct.

Underrated Services Worth Knowing

Gloss / Toner

What it is:

A demi-permanent colour treatment that can do just about anything, except make your hair lighter. Think of it as the finishing touch that pulls your entire colour together. A gloss does not lift or lighten, it deposits tone and adds an extraordinary amount of shine. The results last approximately 4 to 6 weeks.

What it can do:

  • Enhance your existing colour and boost shine
  • Add shine with zero colour change (ask for a clear gloss)
  • Neutralize unwanted brassiness and warmth
  • Customize your blonde with root shadows and specific tones
  • Blend greys for 8 to 12 weeks with zero line of demarcation
  • Correct unwanted tones

Who it is for:

Everyone. Seriously. Whether you’re a regular colour client who wants to maintain their tone between appointments, someone who just wants more shine, or a grey client looking for a low-commitment way to blend without fully covering, a gloss is one of the most versatile and underrated services in the salon. Run, don't walk.

Grey Blending

What it is:

A customized approach to grey hair that does not involve covering it up entirely every four weeks. Grey blending works with your natural grey rather than against it. Using a combination of techniques to soften the grow-out, reduce the contrast between grey and coloured hair, and give you a result that looks intentional and beautiful rather than something you need to hide.

Options include:

Highlights to mimic the pattern of your greys: this breaks up old permanent colour, lets your roots grow out longer between appointments, and creates a natural, blended effect that actually improves over time.

A simple gloss: to camouflage rather than cover greys, applied as a root re-touch for 8 to 12 weeks of coverage with no harsh line as it fades.

Face frame and gloss: a few highlights placed precisely where you see the most greys, softening the grow-out and giving you a more polished look with minimal commitment.

Who it is for:

Anyone who is exhausted by the cycle of covering greys every four weeks, or anyone who is not ready to go fully grey but wants to do something different. Grey blending saves you time in the chair, stretches your appointments, and gives you a result that looks considered and current rather than simply maintained. This is absolutely worth a conversation with your stylist.
